From The Penguin Blog:
“The author in question? A publisher’s dream. Under thirty-five, incredibly talented, handsome and charismatic and with what some like to call a very promotable personal story.”
Guess all you unattractive over thirty-fives are fucked.

Uh, the author in question is John le Carré. In other words, it’s a joke.
Although it is true that publishers are happier if you have some of the above traits, but anyone trying to get press coverage for an individual would be.
hahaha! thanks richard, jokes on me, i didn’t bother to find out who the author was. he seems lovely.
And let the record show that The Spy Who Came in From the Cold is a really, really good fucking book.
It seems like most esteemed writers with successful careers are above 35, which conflicts with promotional advantages. I wonder if publishing, like the music industry, will eventually move into the realm of taking up 18-25 year-olds.
