Overall hits you like: The hot chick in the black-framed glasses that’s way smarter, sexier and wittier than you.
Aesthetic seems: Contemporary, varied and edgy (I know that word is overused but I promise you I mean it in the true sense). Often containing strong narratives that compel you to dangerous and satisfying ends. Mainly short stories and a smattering of poetry.
Look feels: Like the sleek monochromatic lines of the city’s modern architecture.
Current issue standouts: The August issue tangled its fingers in my hair, smacked my ass and said I love you baby.
- Ladies First by Sean Doyle. So hardcore it threatens to overshadow every other piece (if the others weren’t so strong). Raw, hot and off-beat chivalrous, it does what the best writing does: makes you feel less alone.
- An Elegy for Dust and Flight by John Fischer. Immediately I felt floaty and cool. This story builds an atmosphere around you a million miles beyond words.
- For Good by Melissa Goodrich. “He looked so broken-baby-bird to me.” Stunned my heart and I’m a city girl, I know nothing of tractors, but when a writing is universally beautiful as this, it just is.

Thanks for the review, Ani! You picked three of my favorite stories from the September. We want more poetry! We wish writers sent us more poetry! Writers! Send us poetry! This was very exclamatory.
i heard there are some poets around here somewhere… ;)
