Sammy Hagar: literary lion.
The New York Times has a pretty interesting article about the rise of rock ‘n’ roll autobiographies in recent years.
In some cases, like with Patti Smith, Keith Richards and Bob Mould (Or so we hear, we haven’t read the Du dude’s bio yet), the results are insightful and often quite touching. However, the bulk, like Sammy Hagar, Rick Springfield and Duff McKagen seem destined for the dollar bin.
The Times claims not everyone is on board:
But many performers have yet to be convinced to write their life stories, including Elton John, Paul McCartney and Bruce Springsteen, who according to a persistent rumor has been writing his memoir for years.
What autobios would you like to see?
Us, personally, we’d like to see:
- Kris Kristofferson (Amazon has been listing this book as coming since 2005)
- Steve Albini (Dude went to Northwestern for journalism and his writings have always been more than awesome. Oh yeah, he also recorded some bands, we think. Might have something to say. Maybe.)
- Scott Walker (We’re suckers for the overlooked-genius category. Also, we’d like to hear more about him beating his meat)
