We who are about to tweet: @IAMTULLY.
[In which we find out the Twitter philosophies of my most beloved follows.]
Twitter username: @IAMTULLY
Real name: Stephen Tully Dierks
Recent memorable tweet: “Thought ‘fat patrol’ while viewing notably rotund, mustachioed, bulbous-cheeked policeman riding a Segway”
How often do you tweet? Do you limit yourself to a number of tweets per day, or to a certain time of day? Any other OCD-like tweeting tendencies?
I tweet somewhere between 0 and 4 times a day(?) I do not think about how often I tweet. My OCD-like tweeting tendency is to oftentimes delete something I just tweeted due to having a bad aftertweet in my mouth. Not sure how I feel about that portmanteau I just used. Kinda dumb, possibly. I often hate my tweets immediately after I tweet them, is what I’m saying, and then I delete them. Haha.
What is your ‘follow’ philosophy? Do you follow everyone who follows you? Do you follow celebrities, lit mags, ex-boyfriends?
I don’t really have a follow philosophy. I follow my close friends and if I realize someone’s on Twitter that is a writer friend whose Twitter seems funny or something then I might follow him or her. I do follow some celebrities, such as Kanye West and Lil B the Based God.
What is your @ philosophy? Do you tweet people back, engage in ‘chit chat,’ become annoyed when others do?
Sometimes I tweet back at people who say something to me. I am aware that some people think this is potentially not a good look. I consider myself kind of a bad Twitterer and feel vaguely apathetic about attempting to blossom into a better one.
What is your #hashtag philosophy?
Do you obsess about number of: followers / retweets / favorites / unfollows / other?
No, but I feel like, as a subset of my overall failure as a Twitterer, I am also, at a micro level, failing at gaining followerers, retweets, and favorites.
How do you think you come across to your followers? How would you like to come across?
I don’t know. I don’t know how I come across on any social media platform. I have many voices. I don’t care about my Twitter that much, I guess. I post a lot to my tumblr, http://popserial.tumblr.com, and I hope, despite the usually neutral, journalistic-ish tone of the tumblr, that people feel like I am dedicated and trying to make them less bored. And I hope my creative writing will effect some emotional response or laughter or mindfulness.
What do you want people to remember about your Twitter account?
I have never imagined anyone thinking about my Twitter account, let alone remembering things about it.
